All Icelandic ministers – with the exception of Svandís Svavarsdóttir, Minister of Health, and Ásmundur Einar Daðason, Minister of Health – should be double-screened for the coronary heart virus and remain in isolation, announcement from the Prime Minister’s Office.
The decision was made after it was revealed that some individuals staying at Hótel Rangá tested positive for the virus and the ministers in question had a dinner on the spot on 18 August. In fact, out of ten domestic cases registered yesterday, seven were from this hotel.
The ministers will be tried, isolated for a few days and then tested again. In the meantime, there will be no government business until the results are available.
Sigurður Ingi Jóhannsson, Minister of Communications, spoke RÚV that the situation was a reminder that everyone needs to be mindful and careful.
“This is a constant reminder while we are struggling with how we can live with the virus,” he said. “To try to live a normal life, let the government work, companies work and schools work. We need to be constantly vigilant. “
As always, those seeking further information or advice should contact the Icelandic government COVID-19 help page.
