This week, we look at the prevalence of skin whitening creams in Finland, research all the latest Covid-19 news, interview hunger strikers who want to force climate change, and get a first-hand report from the newly renovated Olympic Stadium.
Denise Wall studied skin whitening products in Finland and found that many creams, some of which have been warned about batches containing dangerous ingredients, are available in ethnic stores.
Despite these warnings, demand remains strong.
“The reason for this is that in some societies, lighter skin is associated with beauty, it is associated with space because it suggests that you are not crafting in the sun,” said Denise.
We also asked about hunger strikes that are trying to influence the government’s plans to combat climate change what they want.
“I believe that the action needed to achieve carbon neutrality by 2025, that is, radical action, will require a radical change in people’s lives,” said Till Sawala. “But it’s not like the option is a change. The alternative is a climate catastrophe that will change our entire lives in ways that are out of control.”
