Inspired by the essence and philosophy of Scandinavian design, duduk collaborated with Volvo Cars Malaysia and lifestyle publisher Aurizn to bring Volvo Cars & Aurizn EcoDesign Challenge.
The competition aimed to create real homes with Scandinavian design that Malaysians can own. It also gave Malaysian interior design companies a prestigious platform to showcase their skills and creativity.
It’s about functionality, simplicity and clean lines. The focus is on creating a simple home environment, instead of overloading with too many elements.
But that does not mean that Scandinavian design is still not completely fantastic on its own. In fact, it uses a mix of textures, contrasts and soft shades to create an elegant, modern feel.
Through this, Scandinavian design provides beautifully balanced functionality, modernism and comfort.
Nature is another great influence, as it largely inspires the clean lines and simple patterns that Scandinavian design is known for. Natural materials such as stone, wood, leather and hemp are often used.
At its core, Scandinavian design promotes the idea of living well in a simple home environment.
Scandinavian design usually focuses on a neutral color palette Think of white, gray, tan, light green, light pink and other muted shades. Accents of blue and other bold colors are sometimes incorporated throughout to add a few small pops of color. But for the most part, stick to neutral tones and shades.
As previously mentioned, nature and natural materials are a large part of Scandinavian design. Incorporate wood into your space but you can, from furniture and floors, to walls and windows.
Scandinavian design focuses on creating a bright and light aesthetic, while celebrating the beauty of nature. So when choosing the type of wood to use, choose light ones like beech, ash and pine and make sure the natural wood grain is visible.
This is especially important when decorating. Keep things simple, focus on creating clean lines and do not go overboard. When choosing furniture, choose pieces that are beautiful, but not ornate. Also watch out for multifunctional pieces so you can reduce the number of items you have in one space.
In addition to clean lines, it is also a big part of Scandinavian design to create a space that feels cozy and inviting. It is about using contrasting structures to create heat.
Add soft elements such as plush pillows, fluffy rugs and soft blankets in a space to contrast with the other simple, hard elements in Scandinavian design. Just make sure not to go overboard. The idea is that they should not take up too much space, but still let you be comfortable.
Imagine living in your beautiful home of your dreams, all decorated in Scandinavian design, yaaas!
