Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S) visited 3F in Kastrup on Thursday. Here, some of the employees who have been fired as a result of the downturn in the aviation industry during the corona crisis are organized.
The government will try to help them with, for example, education and faster efforts from the job centers, so that the connection to the labor market can be maintained. This is stated by Mette Frederiksen during the visit.
– The airport and the activities in connection with it are some of the things that have been hit the hardest. This is because worldwide aviation activity has declined due to covid-19.
– We face both a challenge for the aviation industry and for the specific people who have lost their jobs, says Mette Frederiksen.
However, she believes that the situation at the beginning of the autumn is more positive than was thought, after Denmark and many other countries in the spring closed for a large part of social activity to get rid of corona.
– Fortunately, so far it has gone better than we dared to hope for in terms of employment and unemployment. But it does not help the situation of those who have been affected.
– It’s about what we can do, which is the biggest help for those who do not return to their jobs. Some of those who have been fired, we must pass on. For example, with education.
Question: Do you also have a new help package on the way for the industry in general?
– We are in the process of phasing out the aid packages, and this is the right time to do so. Social activity is up again, we have the infection well under control, and quite a few are out spending money again.
– Then you should not continue with help packages. But we have always said that we want to pay special attention to industries that continue to be exposed. Aviation is definitely one of them.
Question: It is conceivable that sharing jobs could be an option. What do you expect to agree on there?
– The social partners are currently negotiating how division of labor, which has been something that has been in use over the spring, can be improved. I dare not say how far one is in the negotiations, says Mette Frederiksen.
If the social partners agree to introduce a division of labor scheme, it may be able to avert redundancies when the wage compensation scheme expires on Saturday.
According to Politiken’s information, the parties are negotiating to introduce a unemployment benefit rate that is 10 to 25 percent higher than the ordinary benefit.
It may make it more attractive for employees to say yes to a part-time job scheme for a period of time until they may be able to return to their old job full time.
