Helkama had one of the best years in its history. Bicycle sales grew dramatically in Finland. “All types of bicycles have been sold out, including electric bikes.” Harri Halme, Helkama ‘s sales director told the Helsinki Times. “There are only a few models left in stock.”
Helkama is a Finnish bicycle manufacturer and importer. In addition to its own popular Helkama bicycles, the company is a distributor for a few other models made in different countries. Halme says that Helkama’s own net sales have increased by 60% compared to last year.
Bicycle dealers are also the biggest winners in the coronavirus crisis in Germany, according to the Ifo Business Survey. Almost all German bicycle dealers are satisfied with the current business situation, with an estimate of 95 out of 100 points. Klaus Wohlrabe, Director of Ifo Research.
Other sectors that are currently performing particularly well are building materials and do-it-yourself products (83.1 points), food and beverages (62.8 points), furniture and equipment stores (40.7 points), retail sale of consumer electronics (29.7 points) and retail sale of computers (33.3 points).
“On the other hand, the situation looks bleak for retailers of all kinds of clothing (including shoes) and shops selling leather goods and bags,” Wohlrabe says. Their figures are minus 60.9 points and 85.0 points, respectively. “In the past, things were really bad in car dealerships, and they, too, are now rising from the‘ valley of the coronavirus ’quite slowly,” Wohlrabe adds. The value is minus 37.0 points.
