In just a few years, the new public transport will be available in the capital region – Borgarlin’s BRT. Fast bus transport is to help ease the traffic jams formed during rush hours and encourage the inhabitants of the region to use the city line. In view of the forecasts that by 2040 the number of inhabitants will increase by about 70,000 people, such a solution seems a necessity.

Borgarlin’s BRT project

In April this year, BRT Borgarlin announced a competition for the design of bus stops for the new city line. A dozen or so works were submitted to the competition, one of them was the work of Poles living in Reykjavik. Krystian Dziopa and Iga Szczugiel are designers and moved to Iceland a year ago. Their work delighted the jury with its freshness and the right solution in terms of availability.

The stops included in the new investment are divided into three zones – closed, roofed and open, so passengers will be able to comfortably wait for their bus. The project offers many possibilities to adapt the appearance of the station to the surrounding landscape. Both the colors of the furniture and the characteristic one “Framework” is a proposal, and each station will be designed individually.

The entire line implementation process BRT Borgarlin is estimated to be around 10 years, and the first stage will be put into operation as early as 2023. For now, the investment is in the design phase.
