The state rent subsidy, one of the crisis measures introduced in the wake of the corona, will not be extended. Ekot can now tell you that.
It was in the spring that the government, the Center Party and the Liberals set aside SEK 5 billion for rental support, aimed at companies in particularly vulnerable industries.
It can be about dry cleaners, car repair shops and restaurants.
A landlord as below a period provides a discount on the rent may receive some compensation from the state. The support – which could be applied for until the last of August – has been criticized for being cumbersome and arbitrary.
And in the extra amending budget with crisis measures – the tenth in the series – which will be presented shortly, no extension is proposed.
This is also confirmed by Minister of Finance and Housing Per Bolund (MP).
– It was an important support, which gave many store owners the opportunity to cover their costs, when customer base decreased in connection with the pandemic. But now we have introduced a new support that did not exist when the rent support was introduced, it is the adjustment support, which of course covers the fixed costs for companies that have had rapidly declining revenues due to the pandemic, he says.
No opposition party pushes for the rent subsidy to be extended, but believes that there are more accurate measures.
– It will be mourned by few. It was a small and complicated support which was also based on having a benevolent landlord. But what the government should do now is extend the adjustment support, which reaches the companies that still have significant problems in the wake of the pandemic, and combine it with investments in more jobs and increased investment, says Jakob Forssmed, the Christian Democrats’ economic-political spokesman.
