On Monday, the so-called Eldrup Commission will present a report with the Commission’s recommendations for the green conversion of passenger cars in Denmark. In other words, a road away from petrol and diesel cars to electric cars.
Here you can read more about the commission and its tasks:
* The Commission was set up in February 2019 by the then VLAK government.
* The goal of the then government was that all newly registered passenger cars by 2030 should be low-emission cars and from 2035 zero-emission cars.
* The Eldrup Commission must therefore make a strategy for how that goal can best be realized, while maintaining the state’s revenue.
* In 2017, the state had revenue from car-related taxes of DKK 50 billion. That amount the state would like to maintain during a green transition. But it requires major changes to the tax system.
* The Eldrup Commission must therefore prepare a proposal for a new and future-proof tax model for cars in Denmark.
* In addition, the Commission will, among other things, carry out an analysis of the infrastructure for low- and zero-emission cars. It must remove barriers to conversion and ensure access to publicly available charging infrastructure.
* The current S government has also set goals for the green conversion of the car fleet. Together with the support parties, the government has a goal of stopping the sale of all new diesel and petrol cars by 2030.
* The Commission is chaired by former Dong director Anders Eldrup. In addition, the Commission consists of five external experts and four experts from ministries.
