2000-year-old date seeds were found in archeological excavations – now they have woken up from their slumber.
In Israel, researchers have succeeded in growing dates from 2000-year-old seeds.
The seeds were found in archeological excavations in desert landscapes and ancient settlements near the Dead Sea.
For 15 years, researchers have been working to wake the seeds from their dormancy and with the help of heating, hydration, plant hormones and fertilizers have now made them grow into large trees.
After pollination the first dates have now been harvested, and according to the researchers they also taste very good.
