A case of drones and other equipment for Islamic State on Thursday gives the Eastern High Court a sentence of imprisonment for eight years for a Turkish citizen. In city court he was given four years.
The 31-year-old Umut Olgun is deported from Denmark, where he has lived all his life.
He tried to contribute to Islamic State terror when in 2017 he sent six thermal cameras to the terrorist organization. In addition, he arranged for other shipments of equipment.
Olgun, who is a Kurd and from Brøndby Strand, has been mentioned as the driver in the case. While driving for Uber, PET installed microphones in the car, and some of the wiretaps have been taken as evidence in the extensive case.
The prosecution believed that the punishment should be imprisonment between 12 and 14 years. Defendant recommended a maximum of four years.
In addition, two other men have been convicted of promoting Islamic State activities by supplying about 30 shipments of propellers, cameras and drone equipment to the organization.
One, Fady Atef Mohammad, is sentenced to four years and six months in prison, which is one year more than the result in the Copenhagen City Court in December last year.
The other, Coskun Ibrahim Simsir, is sentenced to three years in prison. That’s six months more than in city court.
Fady Mohammad is moving in extremist circles. For example, Said Mansour, the so-called bookseller from Brønshøj, attended his wedding. He has taught at Cph Business.
The High Court has ruled that he had a leading role when components were sent to Islamic State’s drone program, which was led by engineer Basil Hassan. The latter was wanted for the attempted murder of the author Lars Hedegaard.
The teacher cannot understand the verdict.
– I just want to say quite clearly. Legal errors have been committed. I do not think there is justice and objectivity on your part, he said earlier Thursday to juries and legal judges.
