There should have been several demonstrations on Friday against the rising retirement age around the country.
In several places, however, they have been canceled due to the rising infection rates. But not in Copenhagen.
The demonstration is being carried out here, says Jan Hoby, deputy chairman of the National Association of Social Educators, who is one of the organizers.
He says there will be hand alcohol. The use of masks and distance is also encouraged.
At the same time, it is not expected that many young people, who Jan Hoby points out, are particularly affected at the moment.
– We are taking to the streets to send a signal to the Social Democrats and the Prime Minister: If it is the whole country’s prime minister and government, then they must stop the rising retirement age, he says.
Question: Is it not an unnecessary risk to take to the streets with the high infection rates?
– I think there is a greater risk of being infected at youth parties, in Rødovre Centrum, Magasin or Illum, he says.
Demonstrations have been canceled in Aalborg, Esbjerg and Odense, among other places.
In Aalborg, participants began to drop out after the mayor and other authorities held a press conference on Thursday about the situation.
– There we could feel that some of the health organizations quite understandably – they have to take even more care – began to drop out, says Allan Busk.
He is chairman of 3F Aalborg and one of the local organizers.
– Then we must also say that there were so many registered youth organizations and schools that we began to get a little nervous about whether we could handle so many people.
– Therefore, we chose with the corona in mind, that it was probably not right now that we should hold it, he says.
He says that will be struck as soon as a new chance comes.
The rising retirement age is part of the broad welfare agreement reached in 2006.
Here it was decided that the retirement age should gradually increase in the coming years, as life expectancy increases.
The settlement was adopted by a broad majority consisting of the Liberal Party, the Conservatives, the Social Democrats, the Radicals and the Danish People’s Party.
