In the USA, sales of vinyl records have, for the first time since the 1980s, been about sales of CDs. It shows a new industry report.
During the first half of the year, American music fans spent just over SEK 2 billion on vinyl records, which is almost twice as much as the SEK 1.1 billion that went to the purchase of CDs during the same period.
But physical music sales are still a small part of the industry’s revenue.
According to the Recording industry association of America (RIAA), payment for streaming music accounted for 85 percent of revenue during the first six months of the year.
One reason for this, according to the organization, is that there has been a greater willingness among people to pay for music services while they have isolated themselves in their homes due to the Corona pandemic.
