Although the recent spread of infection has affected several parts of the country, so far only additional restrictions have been introduced in the metropolitan area.
Due to the development, however, there is reason to spread the austerity measures to more parts of the country. This is the assessment of Nils Strandberg Pedersen, who until 2016 was director of the Statens Serum Institut.
He estimates that the reason why the authorities have not yet spread the austerity measures more may be a hope that the epidemic has been managed elsewhere. This has happened, among other things, through contact tracing.
– But we all fear that at some point there are so many infected that we can not manage to track down all the contacts and thus fight the epidemic.
– We are approaching a limit where I think it will be difficult. With over 400 infected, it is a huge job to do it.
– I believe that more general measures may be necessary, says Nils Strandberg Pedersen.
He points to an area like Aalborg as a place where it would make good sense to introduce further tightening in the nightlife. According to him, this is because the city is a major attraction for people from large parts of Jutland.
