Another top name within the Green Party wants to take over the mouthpiece post from Isabella Lövin. It is the party’s party secretary Märta Stenevi who is now announcing that she is running for the post.
Märta Stenevi says that she believes she can contribute with greater courage in the party
– I think I can contribute with a greater self-confidence. I see that we have done so much good during these years, but that we have also been a little anxious.
Isabella Lövin resigns as spokesperson for the Green Party at an extra congress in January next year and then a successor will be appointed. Several have already registered their interest in taking over. Janine Alm Ericson, who is the group leader for the party in the Riksdag, the Member of the Riksdag Rebecka Le Moine and the party’s migration policy spokesperson Annika Hirvonen have all said that they are running. One of the pre-favorites for the post, MEP Alice Bah Kuhnke, made it clear early on that she did not want to become a mouthpiece.
Märta Stenevi, who is now entering the party leadership battle, was elected party secretary for the Green Party last year. Prior to that, she was a municipal councilor in Malmö and a regional councilor in Skåne. An issue that is now raised again in the Green Party with the election of the mouthpiece is whether one of the two mouthpieces should be outside the government. But Märta Stenevi does not think it would benefit the party.
– When asked, there is an idea that we could say two things at the same time. But I mean that what we need as a party is to agree on what compromises are necessary and then defend them. But the compromises that we do not see we can make, we should not make, and we need to agree on that, says Märta Stenevi.
