The Ministry of Education and Research will add questions about sexual assault and sexism to the study Education Zoom, which is conducted among the country’s students in higher education every two years.
Get a better idea of what Education Zoom is here:
* Education Zoom is a questionnaire survey that is sent out every two years to all students in higher education. In 2020, the questionnaire will be sent out in October.
* The new questions will be used to examine the extent of sexual harassment and discrimination at an overall level and to follow developments over time.
* The Ministry of Education and Research does not provide the exact wording of the new questions, but says that the concept of “unwanted sexual attention” is included.
* In 2018, the survey was sent out to more than 250,000 students. Approximately 104,000 students answered the questionnaire. Back then, issues of sexual harassment and discrimination were not part of the questionnaire.
* In 2018, the Danish Students’ Union (DSF) and Danish Universities (DU) conducted a questionnaire survey among 150,000 students at Danish universities.
* In the survey from DSF and DU, 1194 people answered that they had experienced unwanted sexual behavior, harassment or abuse.
* 82 percent of them were women, while 16 percent were men. The rest had not stated their gender in the study.
* For 50 percent of the responses, the abusive behavior was exhibited by fellow students. 11 percent answered that they had experienced it from a tutor or substance abuse counselor. 10 percent answered that it was a teacher who had violated them.
