The Norwegian government then wants a billion investment in advanced technology to capture and store carbon dioxide.
In total, the investment is estimated to cost the equivalent of 24 billion Swedish kronor, of which the Norwegian state will account for just over half, the rest will come from private actors, writes Dagens Nyheter.
The formal decision on the investment will be made by the Storting in December.
– Norway has long said that it has the opportunity to take care of virtually all of Europe’s carbon dioxide emissions and pump it down into old oil fields under the North Sea bottom that are no longer used, says Swedish Radio’s climate correspondent Marie-Louise Kristola.
