Tonight, the French government announced new measures to stop the growing spread of infection in France. For example, bars and restaurants will be completely closed in Marseille and Guadeloupe from Saturday.
Despite the fact that the French authorities have continuously introduced new restrictions since last summer to stop the spread of infection, it is increasing. On Sunday, a record was broken with 13,500 new registered cases in one day. Six percent of all those tested carry the infection. Therefore, the government is forced to take new measures.
From Saturday bars and restaurants will be closed completely in Marseille and in Guadeloupe, Minister of Social Affairs Olivier Veran announced earlier tonight. Those areas are the hardest hit. There, the infection has also reached the fragile groups, which is why the pressure on healthcare is palpable.
New restrictions are also being introduced in Paris and a number of other major cities. Larger local parties are prohibited. Sports halls and party rooms are closed. A maximum of 10 people may gather in parks, and from Monday, bars and restaurants may not be open later than 22.
