Of the 322 women who have signed a petition against sexism and abuse in political organizations, 25 are from the Liberal Alliance.
The party’s political leader and chairman, Alex Vanopslagh, says after his speech at the party’s national meeting on Saturday that the matter will be dealt with at the party’s top.
– This is something we will address both at Christiansborg and in our main board. We need to figure out how to ensure that everyone knows who to go to if they experience abusive behavior.
– And then we must have written down that you obviously can not behave as we read about in some of these stories, he says.
The 322 women have signed the letter on top of several weeks of debate about sexism and abuse first in the media industry and subsequently also in political youth organizations, in parties and at Christiansborg.
The letter was followed by a series of anonymous accounts of what has been experienced. The list includes both sexism, inappropriate behavior and outright abuse.
– It is worth considering whether to have a study done.
– The names of the signatories are public. So it may well be that one should have a talk with them about what they have experienced. So we can become wiser about how we avoid it, says Alex Vanopslagh.
However, Alex Vanopslagh is not specific about whether it will have consequences for people in the party if cases of abuse or sexism come up.
– First and foremost, we focus on how we ensure that this does not happen in the future.
– But I can not make any bombastic statements about what happens in the case of one or the other. It depends on the specific case, he says.
