The Foreign Ministers of Finland, Estonia and Sweden have agreed to jointly assess new evidence of the sinking of the cruise ship M / S Estonia in 1994.
According to the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, new underwater video images can be seen of the ship’s wreck "on the right side" on shipboard. The material was part of the Discovery Network documentary on the disaster.
The wreck, a protected area, is located in international waters, about 41 km from the island of Utรถ in Finland. On Monday, it was exactly 26 years since Estonia M / S sank and claimed 852 lives.
According to the Ministry, Finland has agreed with Estonia and Sweden to review the new information presented in the document.
"The basic idea of โโthis agreement is to protect Estonia from the disruptive activities of M / S Estonia, which is the final resting place for the victims of the disaster. Our countries are cooperating closely on this issue, and Estonia, as the flag state, is leading this process," the ministry’s statement read.
