18 new corona admissions have been registered at the Danish hospitals. It shows the daily statement on Monday from the Statens Serum Institut.
In total, there are now 110 patients with coronavirus. This is the highest number since 28 May.
In total, the number of corona patients admitted to hospitals has increased by 15 since the most recent survey on Sunday.
The difference between the 18 new admissions and the increase of 15 in the total number of admissions is due to the fact that in the meantime there are also patients who have been discharged.
The number of new admissions must also be taken with some reservations, as there may be a delay in the numbers.
Over the past 24 hours, 435 new cases of infection have been registered out of 49,143 test results. There are no new corona deaths.
Viggo Andreasen, associate professor of mathematical biology and epidemic researcher at Roskilde University, researches the projection of epidemics.
He notes that the number of new cases of infection has been declining since Friday, when it peaked at 678 infected.
– It seems that the epidemic is no longer growing and may have gradually begun to flatten out. That way, I look at it positively.
– It could be a first indication that the outbreak is coming under control, he assesses.
On Saturday 19 September, the assembly ban was lowered to 50. And closing time was introduced at 10 pm at restaurants, cafes and bars across the country.
In addition, requirements were introduced for the use of masks for standing guests.
In terms of time, according to Viggo Andreasen, it is fitting that it is the effect of these measures that is now beginning to take effect.
That the number of new admissions is rising does not come behind the epidemic researcher.
– That part of the curve is very predictable. There is about a week’s delay, from an infected person appearing as a case of infection in the statistics, until a person will appear as a new hospital.
– So the numbers for new admissions are about a week afterwards. So what we see now is in fact from the period when we had the most infected, says Viggo Andreasen.
He predicts that the number of new admissions will increase through this week.
– So we have to expect the number of new admissions to increase until the week is over. And it shows something about why it is important to react early to such outbreaks, says Viggo Andreasen.
Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S) tells Ritzau that the development in the number of infected and hospitalized is “worrying”.
She also points out that additional measures have been introduced to limit the infection.
– I can only again call on everyone to comply with the guidelines and do what we each can to get the infection down.
A total of 27,072 people have been confirmed infected since the coronavirus broke out in Denmark.
