In Gothenburg’s vulnerable areas, the active gang recruitment of young people is increasing, and recruitment is increasingly taking place through coercion, says Maria Wallin, development manager for the security-creating and crime prevention work in particularly vulnerable areas in Gothenburg.
– We have seen an increased fear among young people to be drawn into these conflicts and this type of structure.
According to Maria Wallin, there is currently a severe development of violence in some parts of Gothenburg, where the gangs have acquired greater organizational abilities.
Punishment and social control, she says, are becoming more common:
– You are ported from your own street, or your own area.
Increased police presence, Maria Wallin believes, is a way forward to slow down development, but points out that more is needed than just police.
– We need to go down to the local level and work in a much more active way.
