Poland has a new government, after the country was close to a government crisis a couple of weeks ago.
In the new government, Poland’s strongman, Law and Justice leader Jaroslaw Kaczyński gets a ministerial post. He will also be the country’s Deputy Prime Minister.
– We welcome Jaroslaw Kaczyński to the government, an important reinforcement, said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki when he presented his new government yesterday.
Until now, Poland’s strongman, Jaroslaw Kaczyński, has ruled the country behind the scenes, then in the role of party leader for Law and Justice and Member of Parliament.
He now has more formal power as the country’s security minister, with responsibility for the Ministry of Justice, Defense and Home Affairs, and as the country’s deputy prime minister.
Except Kaczyński the government also gets a new Minister of Education – Przemysław Czarnek. Czarnek, who has previously attacked the LGBTQ movement, compared it to both Marxism and Nazism.
It was a couple of weeks ago that the crisis broke out, when the right-wing nationalist Law and Justice Co-operation parties chose to oppose two bills that Kaczyński, among others, had presented. One of them was about strengthening animal welfare in the country. The second was about giving the Prime Minister and other politicians greater discharge during the corona pandemic.
“There is no longer a coalition, the government has collapsed, our partners can clear their desks,” said several representatives of Law and Justice.
But now that the parties have aligned themselves and Law and Justice has been given the opportunity to reshape the government, the crisis is also averted.
