prime minister Sanna MarinThe SDP government has won the vote of a parliamentary shop steward by 102 votes to 75, with 22 abstentions.
The vote of confidence was based on an interpellation question raised by all four opposition parties on the government’s economic and employment policies.
The forces of the governing parties remained united in the vote, which means that all representatives of the five coalition parties voted in favor of maintaining the confidence of the government.
Opposition parties had argued that the government’s economic policy was irresponsible and failed to achieve the promised employment measures.
In a lengthy interpellation debate in parliament on Wednesday, the government defended its economic policy, arguing that in the context of the coronavir crisis, it was not possible to stay within the original 75% employment target.
This was the first vote of confidence in the coronavirus era. During the outbreak of the spring virus, opposition parties refrained from leaving interpellation issues to give the government room to address the early stages of the coronavirus crisis.
