A 16-year-old girl in a Skåne town has been banned from traveling because authorities suspect plans for her to marry off an older cousin in Saudi Arabia, reports SVT Nyheter Skåne.
The girl is placed in an emergency home and tells that her parents are pressuring her, while they in turn say that it is only a holiday to Saudi Arabia – and not a marriage.
It is the administrative court that decided on the travel ban at the request of the social welfare board, a measure that became possible on 1 July when the penalties for honor-related crimes were tightened. The incident is also being investigated by the police.
– In principle, it is enough that you take the child out over the Öresund Bridge and you can be sentenced to up to two years in prison, says Mattias Steen, councilor at the administrative court in Malmö, to SVT.
