Even tougher restrictions to prevent the spread of coronavirus are being implemented in the capital today, Fréttablaðið and Indicator reported this morning.
This includes closing hair salons, beauty salons and massage parlors and the mandatory use of masks in stores. Restaurants will remain open but will have to close at 9pm every night. The proximity limits will also be widened to two meters, including in all shops, and swimming pools and fitness centers will remain closed.
However, the rules are different for children born in 2005 or later, as school swimming pools are allowed to be open and sports and leisure activities are allowed. The rules on proximity and number restrictions also do not apply to children born in 2005 or later.
The restrictions were proposed by the epidemiologist Þórólfur Guðnason and approved by Svandís Svavarsdóttir, Minister of Health. Report on Government official website states that the duration of these rules is until October 19. They apply to the capital area, which includes Reykjavík, Seltjarnarnes, Mosfellsbær, Kjósarhreppur, Hafnarfjörður, Garðabær and Kópavogur.
The public is encouraged to stay at home as much as possible and not travel unnecessarily from the capital area to the countryside and vice versa.
