In Denmark, the metoo wave continues and more and more professional groups have issued appeals. Most recently, 664 people in the Danish film industry have signed a petition against sexual harassment.
The call began with a young employee at a film company last month going out with his story about how a famous director treated her, says the initiator Olivia Chamby-Rus
– I really expected my industry to start discussing this, debate and so on, and share the article. But it was completely quiet.
The director got it Olivia Chamby-Rus, who grew up in Sweden, to write a letter of support.
– It was a more general letter that was about the fact that now we have to tackle sexism and abuse of power in the film industry.
The response was greater than she expected. 664 people in the film industry, including well-known names such as Susanne Bier, Lars Mikkelsen and Alba August, have signed.
– So it also indicates that it is a problem, because there were so many who wanted to sign.
The call in the film industry is just one in the crowd in the metoo wave that is now sweeping across Denmark. It started with the host Sofie Linde at a humor gala in August telling about her own experiences and after that there have been appeals in several industries. Among politicians, researchers, journalists, musicians and more.
Last week, the party leader of the Radical Left, Morten Østergaard, was forced to resign after he was not honest about himself exposing a party comrade to unwelcome sexual advances.
In the autumn of 2017, when metoo was at its strongest in Sweden, it was quite quiet in Denmark. But now the debate has really taken off on the other side of the Sound.
