28 home seekers were looking forward to moving their furniture into an apartment in Copenhagen. But with the moving boxes in their arms, they met nothing but a locked door.
They had been swindled by a 40-year-old man who had lured thousands of deposit dollars out of them.
On Wednesday, it cost him a sentence of two years in prison at the Court in Frederiksberg.
In some cases, young people or couples with children transferred up to 38,000 kroner in deposit to Mian Aethsham Aslam.
However, after the verdict, they will be allowed to see some of the money again, as the man must pay compensation.
In connection with the frauds, he used in most cases an apartment on Fuglebakkevej in Frederiksberg, which he did not actually have at his disposal.
In his decision, President Kasper Madsen emphasized the number of victims and that these were families with children who could potentially end up without a roof over their heads.
– This is something that the court looks at very strictly, he says.
The remaining six counts for which the 40-year-old was convicted were, among other things, that he unjustifiably pretended to be a business consultant.
He partnered with a woman who had set up an organization to work for better conditions for wildlife.
The man promised the woman a new website and a GoPro camera, but the court did not believe this was delivered to her, despite the woman paying for it.
40-year-old Mian Aethsham Aslam has also been hired by a nightclub owner who testified on Wednesday.
The nightclub owner said that he himself often accommodated big music stars in hotels when they had to perform at his club.
But the now convicted man used the employer’s signature to house a private person whom he had just defrauded in connection with the apartment fraud.
He promised the person that he would pay for the nights, but the nights were never paid.
In all, 40-year-old Mian Aethsham Aslam swindled himself to 578,000 kroner.
In 2017, he received a year in prison for the same type of apartment fraud.
Expulsion was claimed, but Mian Aethsham Aslam escaped with a warning.
He received the verdict.
