It is now clear that there will be satellite launches from the space base Esrange outside Kiruna. The government has today decided on state co-financing of, among other things, a new rocket launch ramp at Esrange, the Minister of Research Matilda Ernkrans announced at a press conference at 16:00 today.
These are satellites in orbit around the earth, and mean that Sweden will be one of only a dozen countries with that capability and may also be the first to launch from European soil.
The Swedish space corporation, SSC, which operates the space base, is aiming for its first satellite launch in 2022.
