Selected dealers of KTM in India have unofficially started accepting bookings of the upcoming adventure traveler at the basic level – 250 Adv. A couple of days ago we had reported that the company had revealed the upcoming tournament to its dealers on one presentation event before launch.
KTM had previously planned to launch 250 Adventure during the first quarter of 2020, but instead made room for its Swedish cousin – Husqvarna to launch its 250 cc naked twins. Things were further delayed due to the pandemic caused by Covid-19. However, it seems that the Austrian bikemaker is ready to introduce its beginner ADV in India.
Depending on the retailer, the booking amount varies from Rs 1000 – 5000. In our previous reports, we had already discussed the details of the upcoming touring engine. From the pictures and information we can gather that 250 Adventure is a merger of 250 Duke and 390 Adventure.
Design features
Most of its design elements have been borrowed from its older sibling – the 390 Adventure. Instead of the split headlight setting in the 390 Adventure, the 250 Adventure will be offered with one headlights in one piece. The headlight unit is likely to be a halogen unit unlike the 390 Adventure which gets an LED unit. This keeps the cost in check.
KTM places 250 Adventure in a place above its naked siblings. It will likely be offered at a premium of Rs 30,000-35,000 over 250 Duke. For this extra premium, the 250 Adventure KTM gets 390 Adventure-like styling and some extra features. This includes one TFT instrument cluster unlike the LCD unit that is in its naked sibling Duke 250. Base will also be borrowed from the larger sibling.
However, as it is a motorcycle at the basic level, it is expected to miss a few features such as Bluetooth connectivity, off-road ABS, traction system, swinging ABS driving via wire and several driving modes. Although it is expected to receive switchable ABS. It will read out important information from the speedometer, odometer, ABS status and fuel gauge.
Driveline
250 Adventure will draw its power from one 249cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine, the same one who runs his naked sibling 250 Duke. This unit manages enough to generate 30 hp at 9000 rpm and 24 Nm peak torque at 7500 rpm. It will be paired with a six-speed gearbox using a slip clutch.
Expected price
At launch, the quarter-liter ADV from KTM will compete with the Royal Enfield Himalayan and Hero Xpulse 200. It will be priced around Rs 2.35 lakh (ex-showroom) which makes it 65,000 Rs cheaper than 390 Adventure.
