Former Radical Party Foreign Minister Martin Lidegaard has decided to stay in the party despite the harsh weeks of recent weeks over sexism and leadership in the party.
This is what Martin Lidegaard says after the party’s meeting on Sunday. Here, Sofie Carsten Nielsen once again got the support of the parliamentary group to continue in the post.
When Martin Lidegaard spoke briefly to the press, however, he left the impression that there is still a long way to go before trust is restored.
– It is with confidence, as it is with credibility. It takes a long time to build up and a very short time to break down. Now we agree to start building trust again. I want to contribute to that, says Martin Lidegaard.
He says he has decided to “give it another chance”. That is why he stays in the party, even though the Radicals’ leader Sofie Carsten Nielsen continues in the post as leader.
Question: Do you trust Sofie Carsten Nielsen as manager?
– I have nothing to add to what has happened. But we have given each other a handshake that we are now trying to talk each other up instead of talking each other down.
Question: Is Sofie Carsten Nielsen the right leader?
– She has been elected. That’s I respect 100 percent. I lined up for the post, so of course I would have liked to have seen someone else. But from here it is about building trust, says Martin Lidegaard.
