Customs officers and police have unveiled a suitcase with ten kilos of raw opium at Copenhagen Airport in Kastrup, and on Sunday the suitcase’s owner was remanded in custody at a court hearing in Copenhagen City Court.
The man, who is 60 years old, came by plane from Turkey, writes Ekstra Bladet.
The traveler pleaded not guilty. But he wanted to explain himself in the court hearing, it emerged before the doors were closed for the sake of the police’s continued investigation work.
Raw opium is extracted from the juice of opium poppies and belongs to the group of opiates like heroin, for example.
With the police, major cases of smuggling and possession of raw opium are relatively rare. The punishment is not to be missed. For example, some years ago a man was sentenced to three years in prison for four kilos.
