Acting Lord Mayor of Copenhagen Lars Weiss (S) has not yet decided whether he will go on to become a permanent replacement for Frank Jensen (S).
He says this to TV2, after a meeting of the Social Democratic group in Copenhagen’s Citizens’ Representation on Monday evening.
– I have some considerations I need to make with my personal and political background and the group.
– I have not made the spreadsheet up yet, he says and points out that he has a little son and a family life that must also work.
Lars Weiss became acting mayor of Copenhagen on Monday, after the previous mayor, Frank Jensen, resigned.
It happened after several women in recent days have come forward and accused him of violating them.
Weiss has become acting chairman by virtue of his role as 1st Vice-Chairman of the Citizens’ Representation.
He is also group chairman of the Social Democrats at Copenhagen City Hall.
However, it is not a “flea market” to be mayor, and therefore Weiss has not yet decided whether he is a candidate for it.
– I have to be sure, that’s what I want. And if I want to, I have to be sure that I have a broad mandate in the group and the hinterland, he says to TV2.
Formally, a new mayor will be elected on Thursday 29 October, when the next meeting of the Copenhagen Citizens’ Representation is held.
Before then, the Social Democrats must have found a candidate. That did not happen at Monday’s meeting.
– We have not started the graduate dance yet. Now we must have a process that does it properly, Lars Weiss tells TV2.
However, the message from party colleague Niels E. Bjerrum, who also participated, is clear:
– I can only say who I think is a good offer to take on that task, and I think Lars Weiss is, he says.
Neither of the two will tell more specifically about the content at Monday’s meeting.
Lars Weiss says that the group has needed to turn around in the last hectic days.
– It is a good colleague, who many have known for several years, who has said goodbye to the town hall. We needed to talk about that, says Weiss.
Frank Jensen has been Lord Mayor of Copenhagen for 11 years.
