– It is a tough but also necessary decision.
This is the reaction from Minister for Gender Equality and Deputy Chairman Mogens Jensen (S), after Copenhagen’s Lord Mayor for 11 years, Frank Jensen, has decided to resign from his post.
Mogens Jensen has shared the position of deputy chairman of the Social Democrats with Frank Jensen.
But Frank Jensen also withdraws from this post.
– With this (the decision, ed.) He puts the values of the Social Democrats and the Social Democrats above himself, and this is how I know him through a long life in politics, writes Mogens Jensen on Facebook.
The Minister for Gender Equality “acknowledges” the Lord Mayor for having made the decision to resign.
– I think it is the right thing to do, writes Mogens Jensen.
Frank Jensen has chosen to resign after several accusations of violations of women have emerged in recent days.
On Monday morning, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S) announced that she takes the accusations that have been raised very seriously.
It was TV host Sofie Linde who recently sparked the debate about violations.
She told of an episode where a “big TV cannon” should have threatened her for sex.
According to Mogens Jensen, the whole debate shows that a cultural change is needed.
– It is brave of the many young women who have recently come forward and told about their experiences.
– Their stories confirm to me that we need a cultural change in the political workplaces as well as in the rest of society, he writes.
It will be party colleague Lars Weiss from the Citizens’ Representation in Copenhagen who will be acting mayor after Frank Jensen has resigned.
Who will be the new deputy chairman of the party, a decision must be made at the end of the month, it is announced at the press conference.
