On Tuesday, DKK 10.8 billion was collected for the troubled and crisis-stricken Sahel region.
This happened at a donors’ conference in Copenhagen, which Denmark, together with Germany, the EU and the UN, has been behind. It informs the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
At the conference, a number of countries and organizations have together promised the DKK 10.8 billion in humanitarian aid to the central Sahel now and in the coming years.
The central Sahel, which includes Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger, is plagued by conflict, growing poverty and hunger.
1.8 million people have been displaced from their homes.
According to MSF, there is an urgent need for far more help for, among others, Burkina Faso.
In both northern and eastern Burkina Faso, fighting between armed groups has escalated.
More than a million people have been forced to leave their homes. Almost half of them have fled since the beginning of 2020.
Most live with limited access to water, food, a proper roof over their heads and medical care.
