Copenhagen’s acting mayor, Lars Weiss (S), will go after getting the mayoral chain for the rest of the election period. He says this to Politiken.
The Social Democrats in Copenhagen (SIK) will on Tuesday vote on who they see succeeding Frank Jensen. Here, Lars Weiss’ name will be on the ballot paper.
Weiss says he has received a large number of calls to go after it.
– When so many have said that I must do it, then you are obliged to do so, he says to Politiken.
49-year-old Lars Weiss became acting mayor of Copenhagen on Monday, when party colleague Frank Jensen resigned after accusations of violations.
This happened by virtue of his title as 1st Vice-Chairman of the Citizens’ Representation.
He is acting mayor until a new one is elected. This will formally take place at the next meeting of the Citizens’ Representation on Thursday 29 October.
Before then, SIK must have found out who they see replacing Frank Jensen, and Lars Weiss is as mentioned on the ballot paper.
The decision is to be made on Tuesday. An extraordinary meeting is held here in SIK with 151 delegates.
Until 12 o’clock on Friday, all delegates can propose possible candidates among the 15 Social Democratic members of the Citizens’ Representation.
Weiss tells Berlingske that he can not deny that others will stand up against him.
To Ekstra Bladet, several anonymous sources have pointed out that the group’s political spokesman, Jonas Bjรธrn Jensen, has such an ambition. However, he denied this earlier Wednesday.
– Everyone can throw their name in the jar. And the closest I can get is to say that my name has not been thrown in the jar at the moment, Jonas Bjรธrn Jensen told Ekstra Bladet.
At Tuesday’s meeting, where the bid for the mayoral candidate until 2022 must be chosen, no decision will be made on who will be the leading candidate for the Social Democrats in the local elections in 2021.
Lars Weiss denies to Politiken that he wants to become a leading candidate.
– I have no plans to run. It is not relevant at all now, he says to the media.
The local elections will be held on 16 November 2021.
