On Tuesday, Grapevine told the story of Maria Meðalfellsgæs: the goose that could not be stopped. The theory is that she was probably raised in a home environment and then thrown out; because the cottage owners in Meðalfell could not control their invasions of the home and even when she was moved to the pond in Hafnarfjörður she could not seem to get her bird’s brain around the fact that not all passers-by want to hang out with geese all the time.
Dýrahjálp Íslands was concerned about its safety – especially with all the nearby traffic – and started a project to find it a new home. Yesterday afternoon, information about the new home was finally published. So where is she now?
Well, María Meðalfellsgæs is living it up in Bessastaðir with her new family: another goose, Gulla, and a bunch of chickens. There are plenty of other wild gray geese in the area, as well as a large meadow and pond for Mary to take a thoughtful wander around, the haters are only a distant memory. This news was published on Indicator last night.
Dýrahjálp Íslands sent out pictures of the present hello happy Mary on Facebook, wearing a flower crown like the queen she is and you can also see her face Instagram. Animal Welfare would like to thank everyone who volunteered to take care of Maria. We wish her all the best.
