It’s October 23, 2020 and you have no idea what to listen to. Fortunately, Grapevine is here for your weekend getaway.
Countess Malaise – this bitch
“I am too hard. I’m too bad. I’m too sad … but I’ve always been that bitch. “Then begins the latest campaign from goth-rapper-monarch Countess Malaise. Her debut ‘HYSTERIA’ in 2019 was full of these bad bitch-trust-fucking-you moments, but it has never been found as real as it does now – really, only the Countess could make vulnerability difficult. Not to mention, the song is catchy as hell on an “I’m A Savage” level and we want to challenge all famous TikTok readers to do a dance for it, pls. HJC
Desolation – There will be hope for prey
Ya fav the atmosphere bm bois Auðn are about to drop their third attempt ‘Vökudraumsins fangi’ next week and gave us a lil ‘entertainment bouche with a number of solo releases in the past few, including the latest “Vör von að bráð”. The song is only “heavy metal” or “headbang-y” as might be expected from Auður, but the dissonance coincides well with the characteristic desperate sound. To say that we are excited to hear an upcoming album would be absurd and not try to bend, but I was previously their top fan on Facebook until the Russians hacked me. HJC
Magnús Jóhann – Waiting
Truly stunning. It’s as if Philip Glass, Ludovico Einaudi and Atticus Ross got drunk and decided to do an experimental spin-off with their jazz friends from the music school who were about to make a minimalist soundtrack for an indie-psychological thriller. What a misunderstanding! Fortunately, it ended in this beautiful path. To be honest, I’m really happy to have found Magnús Jóhann because I imagine that “Waiting” will definitely be in constant rotation at the office in Grapevine. HJC
British – Quiet Cowboy
Lots of wilderness vibez! “Quiet Cowboy” means “Quiet Cowboy” in English, an idea that is perfectly captured by a gentle harp and a galloping horse rhythm that lingers in the background. It’s a fun song that makes me want to go out to the sunset. JD
Janus Rasmussen – Emergency
A mesmerizing song that forms the dance floor beats his debut, “Wine”, to Janus’ terrifying singing. The music video combines these captivating sounds with a glimpse of an Icelandic landscape that feels appropriate through various mood swings. At the same time, the ending ends with a song that you can either dance or fall asleep to. IRW
Ólafur Arnalds – Loom (feat. Bonobo)
Ólafur Arnalds does not invent the spinning wheel in this song (do you understand that?), But “Loom” is nevertheless a solid addition to any cooling playlist or study night. It is difficult to criticize the composer because Ólafur Arnalds makes Ólafur Arnalds so perfect that everything he publishes sounds just like Ólafur Arnalds’ great song. You get us? So while “Loom” is definitely not one of his best efforts, it’s still really good and will definitely end up in some kind of reality field indie one day. HJC
Tendra – Draumaland
Full of romantic French vibes from the old school, “Draumaland” is gentle and small, this is best enjoyed with a large glass of red wine, dark lights and the bang of an old turntable. Listen to this song after a busy work week to get ready for a lazy weekend full of puff pastry corners and coffee. A simple guitar and vocal melody, “Draumaland” proves that all you need is a well-written melody and a beautiful voice to touch the heart and stir emotions. The black and white live music video that accompanies the song adds to the intimacy of this sweet song that made us feel warmth and nostalgia for the Amélie life we never had. JD
ZÖE – Silver balls
Anything! Fun! Chill! ZÖE obviously knows what she’s doing – in fact, this song seems almost creepy to be a memorable, catchy and generally enjoyable time. See – “Silver Bullets” is definitely a proper name. You think you just listened to a rather fun indie song until four hours later you were walking home and humming the choir. Girl, you’ve beaten our hearts. Fortunately, we are not werewolves at Grapevine. HJC
