Minister for Migration Morgan Johansson says today that the Migration Committee’s report on a new refugee policy will be a bill, despite the fact that the Green Party only supports 3 of 26 proposals in the report. The governing parties have negotiated this.
– The main part of this hearing has been completed. Then we have to discuss after
the consultation round, there may be details we may need to screw on. This is always the case when you receive a consultation response, but then we must agree on what was taken there, says Minister of Migration Morgan Johansson Ekot’s Saturday interview.
A month ago The Migration Committee presented its report, which will form the basis for a new refugee law to be introduced next summer. The Committee proposes, among other things, that all residence permits be temporary. For a permanent residence permit, self-sufficiency and knowledge of the Swedish language must be required.
The Social Democrats were behind all 26 proposals in the report, the Green Party only 3. Nevertheless, the parties agreed to send out the report for consultation, the answers will be in early December. In addition, the government is preparing some further proposals that will make it easier for people who are already in the country to stay here, which will also be referred.
Votes within the Green Party has said that when all consultation responses come in, there will be new negotiations. But it will not be, says Morgan Johansson today. The parties have
already negotiated.
– It is very clear in the agreement that the main focus
in a bill should be based on that report. And it’s important to say,
we must agree on whether anything should be changed in the report’s proposal.
And if we are not, then it is the report that applies, he said.
