This is stated in a new green procurement strategy for the state, which must contribute to the green transition.
Finance Minister Nicolai Wammen (S) will present the strategy on Thursday morning at a press conference in the Ministry of Finance.
– It is a plan for how the public sector can contribute to making Denmark greener. We are launching for the first time in Danish history a comprehensive strategy for green public procurement. It’s a fundamental change in the way the public sector buys in, he says.
The public sector buys DKK 380 billion every year. So far, there has been a focus on price, but in future climate friendliness must also be taken into account when the state buys.
The strategy also states that the government will introduce climate compensation for all government employees’ missions by paying a contribution to the Climate Forest Fund.
At the same time, it must be mandatory to buy products such as toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning products and the like, which are eco-labeled with, for example, the Nordic Ecolabel or the EU flower.
In addition, the ambition is that by 2030, all state vehicles will be green. However, operational vehicles, such as ambulances, are excluded.
The government will start work on drawing up a plan for how the vehicles can be replaced with emission-free vehicles.
The climate footprint of public procurement currently amounts to 12 million tonnes of greenhouse gas per year. Of these, approximately four million tonnes are discharged in Denmark and approximately eight million tonnes outside Denmark.
It is the ambition that it will be significantly reduced by 2030 annually. The plan is to set a concrete reduction target for public procurement next year.
