This morning, the Court of Appeal negotiations started in the aftermath of the high-profile demonstration in connection with the Gothenburg Book Fair three years ago. 15 men between the ages of 20 and 50, with links to the Nazi Nordic Resistance Movement, are charged with, among other things, incitement against ethnic groups and violent riots.
The indictment against the ethnic group was completely rejected in the district court, and this is what chamber prosecutor Jonas Martinsson is now particularly focusing on getting 14 people convicted of.
– What happened on this day, if together it can constitute incitement against an ethnic group, is an important question of principle, he says.
In his presentation of the case during the morning, chamber prosecutor Jonas Martinsson emphasized that it is the overall assessment of what happens during the demonstrations in Gothenburg during the 2017 book fair, which should be tried, something he thinks the district court did not do.
He believes that symbols, such as the so-called tyrrune, slogans, speeches and where protesters dress in a similar way, together should constitute incitement against an ethnic group.
During the morning the prosecutor played a 50-minute film where you could see clips from the demonstration where people, dressed with the symbol tyrrunan marched and that there was a commotion when someone shouted “left” and there is a break from the planned march route that NMR has.
All fifteen defendants have denied any wrongdoing.
In the district court, five of the men were convicted of violent rioting, two people of disobedience to law enforcement.
