During the escape, he threatened a psychologist in prison that he was in possession of a bomb. He then also threatened a prison officer before he was released, it emerged from the charges, which were read out at a court hearing on October 21.
Two prison guards ran after the 49-year-old prisoner, who pointed at them with a “gun-like” object.
The same object was used when, according to police, he jumped into a random van and shouted an order to the man at the wheel: “Drive, drive, drive! If you do not drive the car, I will shoot you!”
The police quickly surrounded him, and in that connection he must again have threatened to be wearing a bomb belt.
The police originally suspected him of having received help for the escape, which he, however, rejected in a constitutional hearing in the Court in Glostrup on 21 October.
In Tuesday’s announcement, the police say that the escape, the threats and a case of illegal coercion are still under investigation.
However, the Copenhagen West Region Police have no desire to extend the custody, which a judge initially set at 14 days. Therefore, the killer goes back to prison – but not in Herstedvester Prison.
Peter Madsen is serving a life sentence. He killed Swedish journalist Kim Wall on his home-built submarine.
The objects he was in possession of had apparently been manufactured by him in the prison workshop.
The Danish Prison and Probation Service has apologized for the escape.
– Avoidances such as the one that happened on Tuesday, October 20, just must not happen, director Ina Eliasen has stated.
Incidentally, Minister of Justice Nick Hækkerup (S) has just informed the Parliament’s Legal Committee that he has asked for an account of the escape – and he also wants information about “any specific learning points”.
