On Thursday afternoon, the Helsinki District Court took the 16-year-old boy into custody on suspicion of murder.
The suspected crime took place last Saturday in the Vallila district, where a 20-year-old man was stabbed and later died of his injuries.
Three teenagers are suspected of committing the crime – two of them are 16 years old, while the third was said to be only 14. The 14-year-old is too young to be convicted of the crime, so police have not asked for pre-trial detention in his case.
Earlier this week, commercial broadcaster MTV said one of the 16-year-olds was believed to have been involved in the attack in Tampere last month.
The boys are believed to have stabbed the victim several times on Saturday morning at about 1 am near the Alepa grocery store on Päijänteentie in Vallila. The victim died after being taken to hospital.
The suspects are believed to be acquaintances. Police said they believed the teenagers knew the victim, but only casually. Investigators say the drugs played a role in the incident.
