Dead mink that had been lost from a truck lay on Tuesday evening and the night before Wednesday on the country road between Nordenskov and Tistrup east of Varde.
Early Wednesday morning, however, the road became passable again after several hours of work removing the dead mink and cleaning the road.
This is stated by the South and Southern Jutland Police in a tweet early Wednesday morning.
The country road was partially blocked on Tuesday night after a truck had lost part of a load of dead mink.
On a stretch about 25 kilometers long, there were dead mink, the police inform.
The preliminary investigations indicate that it was a technical error that caused the truck to lose the many dead animals, the police inform about the preliminary result of a car inspector’s investigation.
JydskeVestkysten quotes an operations manager on the spot that a grid on the mink transport had broken, and therefore the animals fell out while the truck was driving.
According to the newspaper, the animals came from a mink farm near Nordenskov. It is a mink farm without infected animals, and therefore the clean-up team did not take any special precautions.
Ekstra Bladet has spoken to a citizen who is simply called Kristian, in the area.
– I just drove by. From Ølgod to Nordenskov, they are scattered all over. There are thousands of them, and it’s just getting worse and worse. It was completely insane. It is grotesque, he says to Ekstra Bladet.
Residents in the area are thanked by police on Twitter for helping with the closure of the stretch. Police have searched the stretch on several occasions to make sure all animals are gone.
This is not the first time that destroyed mink end up on the asphalt.
Saturday night, a truck lost dead mink on the E45 motorway. The dead mink were scattered over a nearly 50 kilometer long stretch from Haverslev to Randers.
North Jutland Police subsequently wrote on Twitter that the truck had been located in Randers, and that the driver would be charged for not securing the load properly.
