He was born in the Canadian city of Toronto. From an early age, Young had a flair for singing and playing.
But to afford his passion, he had to keep busy.
Neil Young has said that he both had to go with newspapers and sell eggs from the backyard chickens in order for the money to suffice.
As an 18-year-old, Young became part of the local teenage band The Squires. Thus began his artistic career.
But it was not until after 12 years as an active musician that he hit the US charts with the song “Harvest” in 1972.
Since then, Young has made his name on the musical scene with over 40 studio albums.
He has been loved for his musical versatility by both playing the heavy rock with long guitar solos and quiet folk-inspired tracks.
At the same time, Neil Young has maintained the hard work of childhood.
This means that one record release is replaced by the next, which is then replaced by a side project.
Then it starts all over again. Over the years he has been in a number of bands such as Crazy Horse, Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.
And Young is not stopping for the time being.
– I still love it, he said three years ago.
Neil Young has regularly visited Denmark and has played several times at Roskilde Festival since the 90s.
Six years ago, he divorced his wife, Peggy Young, with whom he had been dating for 36 years. He is the father of two sons and a daughter.
