About 500 meters south of Mariehamn harbor, the ferry had 331 passengers and 98 crew on the ferry.
The ferry will be towed for further inspections and repairs to the Turku repair yard in Naantali, southwestern Finland, Johanna Boijer-Svahnström, Viking Line’s Chief Communications Officer, said Helsingin Sanomat on Sunday.
Passengers from Åland who were on board in connection with the grounding landed in Mariehamn, while those arriving from Sweden returned to Sweden on Viking Amorella.
Boijer-Svahnström confirmed to YLE on Sunday that the weather conditions were important in the event, but stressed that the cause of the grounding will be determined as the investigation progresses.
“The wind reached a gust speed of about 30 meters per second. One gust had pushed the ship against the shore. ” Jan Hansen, CEO of Viking Line, commented To YLE on Saturday.
The Finnish Safety Investigation Board (OTKES) has also started a preliminary investigation into the incident.
