A 250 meter high wind turbine collapsed the night before Sunday in Jörn outside Skellefteå. The company behind the power plant will investigate the accident and Anders Riis, communications manager at Vestas, which built the power plant, says that they are now stopping all power plants in the park as a safety measure.
– As an extraordinary safety measure, we are also pausing the start-up of the other 16 wind turbines. Now we will inspect everyone individually. When we have a good overview of the status of each turbine, we will consider whether it is safe to restart them, says Anders Riis.
Vestas is now stopping the planned start-up of the wind farm in Jörn outside Skellefteå and they will go through each wind turbine separately to ensure that they are safe. Anders Riis believes that it is too early to say what the reason is that the wine power plant collapsed this weekend, but emphasizes that no one was injured at the time. The incident will now be investigated together with the energy company that owns the park and possibly an outside player. Vestas has built a total of 75,000 power plants and Anders Riis believes that it is very rare for an accident like this to happen, but says that they have happened before.
– Yes, just like with all other large industrial buildings, wind turbines can collapse and we have seen that this has happened before. But with about 75,000-80,000 wind turbines, this is extremely rare.
