Huddinge municipality wants to close down its home service because the business is not profitable.
The issue will now be decided in the care and welfare committee.
Fredrik Björklund is vice chairman of the trade union Kommunal in Huddinge and is employed in the municipal home care service.
– Should this decision go through, it would be a tragedy. There are many residents who have help from the home care service and having to change in the middle of a pandemic and tear up all the security that exists would be insane, he says.
It was because almost two weeks ago, the care and welfare committee in Huddinge went out and announced that the home care service will be discontinued under its own auspices because it is losing something that P4 Stockholm and Dagens Nyheter previously reported on. Already on Thursday, the issue will be taken up in the committee for decision in the care and welfare committee, where the Christian Democrat Karl Henriksson is chairman.
– Self-regulation has been a huge loss for the past five years and we can not continue in that way, he says.
But according to Sara According to Heelge Vikmång, Social Democratic Opposition Councilor in Huddinge Municipality, the home care service’s finances have begun to recover and could achieve good results.
– The care and welfare committee has turned the economy around, and the home care service under its own auspices is also heading in the right direction, she says.
Now a decision will be made on Thursday at the care and welfare committee’s meeting. If there is a yes to closing down Huddinge municipality’s home care service under its own auspices, the opposition will take legal action.
