Iran advises against “all interference” from Sweden after the Foreign Ministry called on Tehran not to execute the Iranian-Swedish academic Ahmadreza Djalali, who was sentenced to death three years ago for espionage.
“The judicial power of the Islamic Republic is independent – any interference in the issuance or execution of judicial decisions is rejected as unacceptable,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said in a statement today.
Yesterday was Ann Linde (S) in contact with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif. She wrote on Twitter that Sweden is working to ensure that the verdict against Djalali is not enforced.
Khatibzadeh says that the information used by the Swedish authorities to inform about their position on Djalali’s circumstances “was incomplete and false”, writes AFP
Yesterday morning, Ahmadreza Djalali’s wife Vida Mehrannia was in contact with him. He said that he would be transferred to another prison and that the death penalty would be carried out.
Djalali has been imprisoned for over four years. He was arrested in 2016 by the Iranian intelligence service during a conference trip to Iran. A year later, he was accused of espionage and sentenced to death.
Fredrik Malm, (L) liberal member of parliament says that Sweden must have an opinion about a Swedish citizen who is being executed.
