Sport Round-Up: Denmark mourns Diego Maradona

THE GOAT is gone

A controversial figure during and after his playing days, only a few can argue for Maradona’s brilliance.

Who else could score the biggest and most infamous goals in world championship history … just four minutes apart in the same game!

Maradona only played against Denmark once: in a penalty shootout victory against the Danes in the Artemio Franchi Trophy in 1993.

Harder among Ballon d’Or nominees … again
Danish striker Pernille Harder has once again been nominated for the Women’s Ballon d’Or – the FIFA award for the best football player in the world. Harder, who finished second in the 2018 competition, is the European Footballer of the Year. Her recent move to Chelsea involved the highest transfer ever paid for a woman. The 28-year-old has scored 64 goals in 122 matches for Denmark.

Wolfsburg gets a new Dane
In September, German side Wolfsburg said goodbye to Pernille Harder in a record deal. Now the Bundesliga side has got a new Danish element after signing midfielder Sofie Svava from Swedish outfit Rosengård FC. Svava, 23, has 14 national team matches for Denmark. Wolfsburg has paid out 730,000 kroner as part of the agreement.

Olympic television agreement signed
Discovery has revealed that an agreement has been reached with DR and TV2 on the television rights to the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing and the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. However, Discovery will retain non-exclusive digital rights, meaning the only place to watch all action live and on demand will be on its digital platform Dplay.

FCM Champions League misery continues
FC Midtjylland is finished in Europe this season after losing 1-3 at home against Ajax Amsterdam in the Champions League on Wednesday night. The result means that the Danes now have no chance of finishing in third place – a result that would have given them a place in the Europa League knockout phase. With zero points, the Wolves are last dead in Group D, seven points are Atalanta and Ajax, with only two games left.
