The region therefore goes from step 0 to step 1 in the emergency preparedness. This means that a number of planned operations are canceled. It should create more beds and free up more staff who can take care of the treatment of coronary patients.
– The infected patients are gradually transferred to a covid section as the beds are established, says Jesper Gyllenborg.
Most of the 12 infected patients on the ward have no symptoms. However, some of them have mild or moderate symptoms, the statement said.
Including them, Region Zealand had 44 hospitalized corona patients on Friday morning. Six of the patients are admitted to intensive care.
The region is now postponing less than 30 planned operations at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University Hospital of Zealand in Køge from next week until the new year.
The affected patients have been contacted, the region states. Executive Vice President of the region, Leif Panduro Jensen, states that the postponement is currently a necessity.
– We constantly focus on maintaining as normal an everyday life and operation as possible for the sake of patients and staff.
– The postponement of some operations is a necessity and completely in line with our contingency plan, simply so that we can ensure the necessary beds and staff to care for, observe and treat the increasing number of hospitalized covid-19 patients, says Leif Panduro Jensen.
All acute patients and other planned activity at the region’s hospitals remain unchanged for the time being.
Also in another part of the country there is an increased need for beds for covid patients.
In a press release, Aarhus University Hospital states that 33 covid-19 beds will be established. They get permanent staffing.
Among other things, it must ensure predictability for the employees at the hospital.
Several have so far been pressured because they have gone with the uncertainty of when, at short notice, they were called to work with covid-19 on another department, with new colleagues and new roster. It informs the hospital.
Since March 2020, Aarhus University Hospital has had almost 300 patients admitted with covid-19, and the emergency department has handled 5,500 patients with suspected covid-19.
